Fibromyalgia and IBS

It is understood that the majority of fibromyalgia sufferers also have IBS

The link is still being researched but the pain and fatigue is bad enough

When I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia is was also diagnosed with IBS

The rheumatologist asked me questions about my stomach while working out my diagnosis

I always thought that I just had a bit of a different stomach, as everyone has issues from time to time

However now I always notice that when my pain or fatigue flare up, so does the IBS and vice versa especially if I’m stressed or anxious

Random stomach aches, bloating, trapped wind, gas, constipation, diarrhoea the list could go on

I experience every kind of IBS at one time or another

I have also found I suddenly become intolerant to certain foods

For example I can no longer eat whole eggs in any form as they give me horrible stomach cramps

It just happens overnight, my body decides it doesnt like a food anymore and that’s that

Oh you like melon? Not anymore my stomach decides!

IBS is surprisingly disabling considering how many other symptoms we have to deal with

I was a picky eater beforehand, now I can only stick to the simplest foods just in case my body decides it doesn’t like something

Even having a couple of alcoholic drinks on a night out, a couple of hours afterwards I’m on the toilet like I’m already having a hangover!

I find Rennie helps and warm baths can also relax the stomach, but I havent found much else that helps me yet

  1. I’ve been living with fybro and endo for years but have only just started reading blogs. It’s such a relief to know I’m not on my own. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
